Who you were disappears
When did you forget who you were?
Was it when the wind sang his voice
Through the desert and rode in
On the dry tumbleweeds
Seems sad that you heard the call.
How did you forget who you were?
Was it slowly or in a swift moment
With a glance from his clear eyes
That stole your soul and
Made you forget about the rest
Where did you forget who you were?
Was it in
Or walking up your driveway
With the news in your hand
And you slipping away.
Do you wonder who you were?
I hope you think of the person
In your dreams and remember
The soul, the laughter and the tears
That were so real.

Into patterns reacquainted
Into habits reinvented
Into the chaos of my mind
And the clutter of my heart
Seeing them for the first time
I cried
For the loss, for the beginning
For the adventure still unventured
For the times still unmentioned.
I can laugh now.

Circadian Creation: 6.6.06 Overwhelmed
Flappp… flappp.
She heard the sound echoing around her.
Flap flap.
The sound was heavy and commanding,
A prehistoric bird perhaps, swooping in
To snatch her from herself.
By white light
And a heavy vibration in
Her empty chest.
White light shrouded by impossible
Wings above her.
Magnificent grace.
She could see no face.
Flapp flap.
She opened her mouth;
Everything
Was wrong.
She tried to scream.
Flapp flap.
Was the only sound.
Slow and pregnant.
Tilting her head and searching around her
All she could see was
Endless wings.
The empty chests of countless girls
Like her.
A wing reached down and covered her.
Grace reformed to heaviness and darkness.
Taking her breath as she gasped one last time.
This is just a very rough first draft still…inspired by an interview with poet laureate Billy Collins heard on NPR yesterday.

Our lives
May our lives be ever intertwined, our love keeping us together. We will build a home that is compassionate to all, full of respect and honor for others and each other. May our home be forever filled with peace, happiness and love. –Author Unknown

Realization
Tipping her head back, she roared out
a laugh that was
Pain and defeat , rage and amusement.
She saw him in the stark light
At this moment
And felt the truth embrace her.
His tragic being glistening for her to see
As he slowly dripped crocodile tears
into the bay of emptiness around him.
He was nothing, she realized as she walked away.
Disclaimer: This isn’t about anyone I know. The love of my life does indeed piss me off sometimes, but the above is not him. Just inspired by a song.

Heavenly
Crickets loudly singing their chirping song, echoing through the heat and sliding off perfect blades of grass on a hot summer afternoon. Thermometers with their mercury levels off the chart and you know it’s true as a bead of sweat collects at the nape of your neck. You feel another sliding down to join it in a pool of summer bliss. “Too hot,” you say, knowing you wouldn’t want it any other way. Lying on the grass, a gentle touch from the person next to you tells you that you’re home in a way that nothing else ever could. You sigh as you relax even deeper into the warmth of the day. Enjoying the man playing guitar gently, in an off-hand way that you would love to perfect. The sound wraps around your body and someone starts singing the lonesome blues and heaven is in you now. Heavenly summer afternoon.
