Teething the snow in downward dog

Five Things I’m Grateful For

  1. The snow covered, beautiful ground outside. Snow makes everything look better, especially the gray, rocky poconos.
  2. Naps. Yes, apparently, being a work-from-home (as much as possible anyway) mom makes naps a serious commodity.
  3. Communication.
  4. Friends and family who have helped us out. So grateful.
  5. Yoga – makes such a gigantic difference. Instant life improver.

Four Things I Can’t Stop Thinking About

  1. Money. That nasty little elusive critter. It sucks. Relatedly, finding freelance work. Yes, I know that ‘relatedly’ isn’t a word. I’m at a loss for the word that works here so this is the temporary (fake) filler word.
  2. Two websites that I’m working on (thinking about design ideas and special features)
  3. Asheville
  4. Creative ideas are running like crazy through my mind. This is good. Lack of (non-exhausted) time not so good.

Three Things I Want To Accomplish This Week

  1. Teething relief
  2. Mock ups completed
  3. The viewing of Sex & the City 2

Two Things I Am Working To Be Positive About

  1. Our current monetary situation.
  2. The fact that the whining is, most likely, directly related to teething and will not last forever.

One Random Thing

Teething sucks! I, stupidly, kicking myself, was so impressed when Indira’s first two teeth came in effortlessly. The second two were accompanied by some crankiness. What’s happening now is just insanity! This may be teething combined with separation anxiety (even though she’s rarely even separated from me) and stress of her two awesome parents. Whatever it is, wow. These alone times at my computer or on my yoga mat or watching mindless tv with Dave on the couch are essential now. I need to add some more actual outside socialization and then this may be a stroll in the park… Kidding. Sort of.

Naps rock

5 things I am grateful for:
  1. Naps. Not my own. Indie’s. She’s much more an “Indie” lately than an “Indira”. She’s been a wild woman and she’s started something new – whining and crying! Whew. It’s exhausting. It’s difficult not knowing WHY she’s whining and not having a resolution.  So, naptimes are time to breathe. Slowly. Quietly. An hour or two of re-centering.
  2. Dave working his butt off and being awesome at what he does. I have a feeling he’s a freaking rockin’ professor.
  3. The ability to do what I do (design!) from home. Flexibility rocks. Now, if only I could have a) freelance work rolling in on a consistent basis and b) enough time to sanely do said freelance work.
  4. Being registered for Mondo Beyondo! Can’t wait to get started!
  5. Despite the whining, Indira. She’s just amazing and brave and sensitive and adorable.
4 things I cannot stop thinking about:
  1. Snow. We’re going to get a lot. I have a snowy feeling.
  2. Ways to have time to get freelance work done, get new freelance jobs, AND leave time for non-work creative endeavors.
  3. Why Indira has been whining, crying more than ever. Is it just movement and wanting to communicate but being unable to?
  4. Time.
3 things I want to accomplish this week:
  1. Something solid completed for the Married to a Chef website.
  2. Organize the clothes that are taking up space in our playroom/office/tv room (aka finished basement)
  3. Hot date with Dave. (unfortunately, this one may be a pipe dream)
2 things I am working to be positive about
  1. Being at home so much.
  2. Living in Pennsyltucky
1 random thing:
I love Thanksgiving and this one was a great one! We actually ate before 4:00. We had a great bunch of people (including Marly and Djuna!). We all pitched in and cooked things the day before which made day of much easier. We learned that Thanksgiving dinner apparently = cranky kids/babies. Nothing like breaking bread (and stuffing and potatoes) with people that you love.

Friday schmiday

glitterfillitin

1. The most spontaneous thing I’ve ever done was: getting a ride to the beach in college and stupidly (but it was fun) ditching our ride and hanging out on the beach all night. Then in the morning, we had to call a friend from a pay phone (yes, no cells yet) and have him come and pick us up 2 or 3 hours away.

2. The best gift I’ve ever received was personalized cover of the white album cd illustrated by Dave. I had told him how, as a kid, I would sit and listen to the white album with the liner sheet spread out in front of me and how much I loved that album! That’s what he illustrated for the cover so it’s my own personalized copy of the white album. Only problem? Who uses CDs anymore. Hmmm. I need to take a pic and put it in my itunes for the white album. Just realized that.

3. A time that I was truly and genuinely surprised was when I bumped into my then boyfriend shortly after midnight on New Years Eve near Times Square. We had decided to do different things with different friends for New Years for some weird reason and we ran into each other! Crazy!

4. I can’t leave the house without Indie.

5. My favorite day of the week is Saturday because Dave is home and we have the entire day and can stay up late (well, not too late anymore since Indie wakes us up early) but we have the whole day together AND the next day as well.

6. Something that can always make me laugh is Dave’s dances. Enough said. Well, that and The Office.

7. My perfect day would include exploring the streets in Italy or Spain or Portugal with Dave and my camera. Drinking coffee in cafes and drinking wine and eating cheese while sitting outside on European verandas people watching and just soaking in the language that’s not our own. Soaking it all in.

Monday five countdown two days late

My excuse? We were in our new house and had no internet until today!

Five Things I’m Grateful For

  1. This amazing house that we’re living in. Amazing. Photos coming soon!
  2. Indie’s naps. She is in teething hell with her top teeth so naps are much needed. Her bottom teeth were muuuuuch smoother coming in.
  3. Freelance work
  4. Help
  5. Internet

Four Things I Can’t Stop Thinking About

  1. Our awesome new house (yes, I’m obsessed)
  2. Asheville (the awesome new house doesn’t make up for the loss of Asheville the town and the people)
  3. Freelance work I need to get done
  4. Thanksgiving! I looooove Thanksgiving AND my sister and baby are coming up to join us! Yayyyy!

Three Things I Want To Accomplish This Week

  1. Unpack most of our boxes of books
  2. Get clothing unpacked
  3. Finish stocking the kitchen

Two Things I Am Working To Be Positive About

  1. Our dogs (they have been menaces)
  2. Living in Pennsylvania

One Random Thing

It really sucks not having a grocery store with lots of organic foods and fresh, local, and organic produce. It makes me angry. Yes, I’m a downer in this countdown……

One more random thing, I miss Asheville. I know everyone is tired of hearing it. I really really really miss it.

Fill in the Blank Friday

fall

  1. My Halloween plans this year will include dressing Indira up and taking pictures of her and unfortunately not going to any Halloween parties or hosting any Halloween parties! It’s going to be a dud of a Halloween but our excuse is baby and we’re moving next weekend.
  2. My most memorable Halloween costume was either the Cabbage Patch kid costume that my mom made me (and I won a costume contest for it!) OR my Frida Kahlo costume that I wore a few years ago which was just a kick-ass costume. It came out AWESOME and I worked that unibrow (to the point that Dave was freaked out by me the whole night).
  3. For Halloween this year I’m going to be nothing. :( Like I said, unfortunately this Halloween is a dud which sucks because it’s one of my favorite holidays, especially since it lacks the generic holiday drama.
  4. I’ve always wanted to dress up as Madonna. I mean, she’s Madonna so why not.  I think I actually must have dressed up like her at some point in the past but I don’t recall.
  5. Halloween free association! fun, trick or treating, costumes, witches, candy, parties, hay rides, jason, michael
  6. The worst thing about Hallow when I have no fun Halloween plans.
  7. The best thing about Halloween is costumes! For sure! No doubt! Excited for a Halloween party next year hopefully! And also excited for all of the costumes to come for Indira.

Fill it in

  1. I am stronger than I thought.
  2. I wish travel was free and that I had more time.
  3. I like crisp fall evenings when there’s a glow over everything before dark settles in.
  4. I can not wait until we are in our new amazing house!
  5. I hope to find a little of the elusive balance in the upcoming months.
  6. I think I can.
  7. I was worried that I wouldn’t be a good mom. I know that I am. Now I’m worried about balancing it all. I will figure it out though. Or, we will figure it out rather.

More Fill in the Blank Friday over here.
